Dennis Helfer along with Elaine Helfer were the parents of Helfer when she was born. The family's ancestry includes German, English. Swedish and Norwegian. She went to William E. Hay Composite High School located in Stettler. The school was located at the farm of her family along with her three sisters, Trena, Tammy and Tara. A modeling agency scout discovered Helfer at the age of 17, while standing in line for a movie.
